Nvidia boasted of “insane” demand for Blackwell chips, but “everything is going according to plan”

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told CNBC’s “Closing Bell Overtime” that demand for Blackwell’s next-generation AI accelerator is “insane.” Nvidia has been a major beneficiary of the AI gold rush. The Blackwell chip, which will cost between $30,000 and $40,000, is in high demand among AI race leaders such as OpenAI, Microsoft and Meta✴.

«Everyone wants to have the most, and everyone wants to be first,” Huang noted during the interview, which aired Wednesday. Nvidia shares were up about 3% on Thursday morning. Nvidia has been a major beneficiary of the artificial intelligence boom, with its shares up about 150% year to date. The company’s revenue increased in the second fiscal quarter to $30.04 billion, up 122% from the same period last year. Sales for the current quarter are expected to reach $32.5 billion.

«When technology moves so quickly, there is an opportunity to triple the pace, to really drive the innovation cycle so that we can increase capabilities and capacity, reduce costs, reduce energy consumption. We are on the way to this, and everything is going according to plan,” Huang is confident.

Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said in August that the company expects to generate several billion dollars in revenue from shipments of Blackwell accelerators in the fourth fiscal quarter. According to Huang, Nvidia plans to update its AI platform every year, increasing its performance by two to three times.
