Nvidia Admits It Doesn’t Know When It Will Fix All of the GeForce RTX 5000 Graphics Card Issues

Crashes and unstable operation of Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards are still bothering their owners, and the manufacturer has nothing to offer yet. The company continues to investigate the incidents, an Nvidia employee reported on the support forum, but the time frame for solving the problems has not yet been specified. It is not even known how they will be solved: by updating drivers or firmware of the graphics cards – vBIOS.

The comment was posted in the Nvidia GeForce Game Ready 572.47 WHQL driver review thread, where users continue to complain about black screens, crashes on the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 5090, and even some RTX 40 series models. The latest driver fixes only one bug, which was related to issues that occurred when waking the monitor from sleep mode.

The company initially said it had initiated an investigation two weeks ago, shortly after the release of the GeForce Game Ready 572.16 WHQL driver. Stability issues began with the release of the 570 driver branch. They can be “minor,” such as stuttering in games, or critical, including regular “blue screens of death” (BSODs), which effectively render the graphics cards unusable.

Most often, problems appear in the operation of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series, but also affect the RTX 40 and even the RTX 30. A statement by a company employee on the forum may mean that the problem is not only in the drivers, but also in the firmware of the video cards. In some cases, video cards begin to work stably when switching the PCIe 5.0 bus to PCIe 4.0 mode and / or reducing the monitor refresh rate to 60 Hz; however, there is a version that this method only works on GeForce RTX 50 series models. Some difficulties are also observed in the operation of the DLSS 4 frame generator.

Nvidia has a hard time releasing the latest generation of graphics cards: they are very expensive, there is a shortage in retail, there is a risk of melting power connectors, and the graphics cards themselves are unstable. To top it all off, some flagship GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs have fewer rasterization units (ROPs) than advertised.
