Nvidia accounted for half of the top 10 chip makers’ revenue last year

Nvidia is rightly considered one of the main beneficiaries of the AI ​​boom. Last year, its revenue grew by 125% to $124.4 billion, which allowed it to take half of the revenue of the ten largest chip developers for the period, as noted by analysts TrendForce.

In total, the top ten chip developers increased their revenue by 49% to $250 billion last year, according to a recent report. Revenue concentration is generally typical for the segment, TrendForce representatives add, since more than 90% of the revenue in the top ten developers was concentrated in the hands of five companies.

Nvidia’s revenue will continue to grow at a steady pace this year, as the company will launch the GB200 and GB300 accelerator families, as noted by TrendForce. Competing AMD is in fourth place in the ranking, its revenue last year grew by 14% to $25.8 billion, and its share in the top ten reached 10%. In the server segment itself, AMD’s revenue last year grew by 94%, although this was mainly due to the growth in demand for the brand’s central processors.

Qualcomm came in second after Nvidia in the TrendForce ranking, increasing its revenue by 13% to $34.9 billion, but reducing its share among the top ten developers from 18% to 14%. Qualcomm’s progress was facilitated by the revival of the smartphone market and the expansion of its components in the automotive segment last year, as TrendForce explains. This year, Qualcomm will be able to focus on the PC segment, since its litigation with Arm has been put on hold.

It is clear that Nvidia leads in revenue by a wide margin from its closest competitor. However, Broadcom is not so far behind Qualcomm, as the former ranks third with 12% of annual revenue. Broadcom’s own revenue grew by 8% last year to $30.6 billion. According to official data, chips for the AI ​​segment account for more than 30% of Broadcom’s revenue. It is generally accepted that they are actively used by Google in its computing infrastructure.

MediaTek ranked fifth in the top 10, with revenue up 19% to $16.5 billion last year. The company’s products are well represented in the smartphone, power electronics, and Internet of Things segments. This year, MediaTek will continue to grow revenue thanks to the distribution of its components for 5G-enabled smartphones. Cooperation with Nvidia will also bring benefits.

While Marvell has secured sixth place in the ranking with a 2% market share among the top ten chip developers, Realtek and Novatek have swapped places compared to 2023. Realtek’s revenue grew by 16% to $3.5 billion, which allowed the company to take seventh place and 1% in the top ten, while Novatek faced a 10% decline in revenue to $3.2 billion and ended up in eighth place.

Ninth place went to Will Semiconductor, the company’s revenue grew by 21% to $3.05 billion. This manufacturer’s progress was driven by high demand for image sensors for smartphone and vehicle cameras. MPS, which took tenth place, was able to boast a similar increase, but in absolute terms its revenue was limited to $2.2 billion. For it, the main driver of revenue was the server segment, which it supplies with its own power management solutions.
