Norwegian company 1X has unveiled its second prototype of a humanoid robot for the home, the Neo Gamma model, which replaces the Neo Beta model announced in August 2024. Robots from 1X are a special category of “iron human assistants”. From the very beginning, the developers set themselves the ambitious goal of creating a robot for the home and family, with which you can share a common living space without risk to health and life.

The Neo Gamma robot is even softer, with a knitted fabric covering it. As a large, heavy and, most importantly, mobile device, the robot itself is dangerous to humans and especially to children or pets. It may not be noticed in a dark corridor, it may accidentally push you or damage furniture or equipment. The developer must provide for most negative scenarios of incidents with the robot, but even then it is unlikely that everything will be covered by the program and insurance.
The video below shows examples of possible uses of the Neo Gamma robot in everyday life. It can serve at the table, clean, help with carrying items, and much more. Previously, the Neo Beta robot demonstrated its culinary skills, demonstrating the ability to deftly handle food and kitchen utensils. However, it did all this using remote control. The Neo Gamma robot and its future commercial version will also support telepresence. This will be necessary for emergency interception of control of the robot. For example, a person with disabilities can control the robot, or control can be given to a doctor, nurse, or relative.
The developers note that robots for home use will be in high demand as the population ages. Older people will increasingly be left alone, and a robot can help them manage household chores. But the path to this has not yet been passed. All this is still ahead. It is still necessary not only to create a safe and dexterous assistant, but also to place flexible and smart artificial intelligence into it. Fortunately, behind the company 1X is the industry leader – OpenAI, and it is not the last player in the field of artificial intelligence.
