«Research Center 227 was created to improve the collection of intelligence information from foreign sources, but its immediate task is not the collection of information itself, but the development of technologies and programs for offensive purposes, that is, used in hacking systems. The unit’s specialists will be tasked with finding new ways to neutralize the cybersecurity systems of other countries, and to strengthen the means aimed at stealing data, assets and disrupting computer networks.
The main tasks of the “Research Center 227” are: studying methods for neutralizing network security tools, developing AI-based data theft technologies, hacking financial systems, and creating programs to automate the collection and analysis of information. The unit will operate around the clock, allowing it to respond in real time to information received from other DPRK hacker groups deployed abroad. Its resources will be focused on developing complex hacker programs.
The Intelligence Agency is currently selecting specialists for the “Research Center 227” – at the initial stage, this will be about 90 experts who have shown the best results at major universities and have completed postgraduate scientific training.
