Nintendo Switch 2 Avoids Price Hike Despite New US Tariffs – Accessories Can’t Say the Same

Nintendo has announced a new pre-order date for the Switch 2 console in the United States, starting April 24. The company apologized for the delay in announcing pre-order information for the console and said the Switch 2 remains priced at $449.99 despite new import tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

At the same time, Nintendo announced an increase in the cost of accessories for Switch 2. Prices have increased for the Joy-Con 2 controllers, Pro Controller, and webcam for the new console. The Joy-Con 2 controller was originally announced at $89.99, but now it costs $94.99. The price of the new Switch 2 Pro controller has increased from $79.99 to $84.99. As for the new webcam for Switch 2, its price has increased from $49.99 to $54.99.

Pre-orders for the new console were originally set to open on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to assess the impact of Trump’s new tariffs “on market conditions.” At that time, the company also announced that the console’s public sales date would not be delayed, but would begin on June 5. On April 8, Nintendo announced that it was delaying pre-orders in Canada “to align with pre-order timing to be determined in the United States.” Thus, pre-orders for the console in Canada will also begin on April 24.

As part of the big announcement on April 2, Nintendo said the Switch 2 would cost $449.99. It would also be available as a bundle containing the new console and Mario Kart World for $499.99. In its latest announcement, the company confirmed that the price of that bundle has not changed, as have the prices of the games announced with the console, Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananaza ($69.99).

The Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD display with 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10, a custom next-gen Nvidia processor, 256GB of storage, larger Joy-Con controllers, and support for microSD Express cards up to 2TB.
