Nintendo reported on a drop in sales of consoles by 30 % and 24 % games – everyone is waiting for Switch 2

Now in the calendar of the Japanese Nintendo Corporation in full swing is the last quarter of the outgoing fiscal year, but the company published reporting for the previous quarter the day before. Having admitted the intentions to present the new generation console soon, Nintendo was forced to encounter a decrease in revenue and profit, and the forecast for the entire fiscal year was also adjusted for the worst direction.

According to Bloomberg, the Nintendo operating profit in the current fiscal year will not exceed $ 1.8 billion, which is more than 20 % lower than the previous forecast. The number of SWITCH game consoles scheduled for the implementation of the fiscal year in the Nintendo forecast also decreased from 12.5 to 11 million. In the December quarter, Nintendo sold 4.82 million Switch consoles, and the total sales for the current financial year reached 9.54 million units. This is 30.6 % less than in the previous year.

Quarterly revenue and operating profit from October to December decreased by about a third, and both indicators at values ​​of $ 2.8 billion and $ 811 million, respectively, were lower than the expectations of analysts. Nintendo revenue in the nine months of the outgoing fiscal year as a whole decreased by 31.4 %, operating profit fell by 47 %, and net profit – by 42 %.

As for the games, their sales for the nine months of the current financial year were also reduced, albeit not as significant as consoles – by 24.4 % to 123.98 million units. The most popular was Super Mario Party Jamboree, which dispersed 6.17 million copies. In second place is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with a circulation of 5.38 million copies. In the third and fourth place are The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Nintendo Switch Sports with indicators of 3.91 million and 2.63 million respectively.

Last month, the company confirmed the intention to present a new generation game console in early April, and also guaranteed the compatibility of old games with a new platform. For almost eight years of the first -generation, the presence of the first -generation Switch was able to disperse more than 150 million units, and more than 1.3 billion copies of software were sold to it. Until the beginning of June, Nintendo will hold events around the world, at which game lovers will be able to try out its new console in the case. The fall in sales before the release of a new platform is predictable, but it will probably be short -term.
