Nintendo announced in a statement to the media that it has made an unprecedented decision to delay pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 hybrid console in the United States due to the country’s new tariff policy in the area of customs control.

Let us recall that US President Donald Trump recently announced the introduction of increased import duties on foreign goods from April 5 – up to 54% on Chinese goods, up to 46% on Vietnamese goods, and so on.

Experts believe that the new US tariff policy could “completely reshape the American tech industry” and increase production costs. Nintendo is probably worried about this too.

The Japanese platform holder said it was delaying the opening of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US from April 9 to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions.”

A new pre-order date for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced later, but the company does not intend to change the release date for the console in the country – the start of sales is still scheduled for June 5.

Users have already criticized Nintendo for the inflated, in their opinion, price of the Switch 2 and flagship games for it (see Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza) – $70-80 in digital form and up to $90 at retail.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently expected to retail for $450 in the US, which is already half the price of the original Switch at launch. Nintendo’s announcement today, however, suggests that the price could go up even further.
