Designer Maximilian Raynor and the Equinix data center operator combined efforts to create unusual clothing from the recycled equipment of one of the London data centers of the company. According to Equinix, it took about 640 hours to manufacture an outfit created mainly from those who served their fiber -optic cables.
According to Reinor, “you do not need access to the best materials to create something beautiful”-you can use non-traditional materials, because the approach to design itself is more important. The dress turned out to be really unconventional – it consists of 3600 m “optics” and weighs about 25 kg.
According to the representative of Equinix, eliminating the boundaries between material and virtual, the partners wanted to create something “tangible”, which would serve as a topic for discussion in order to emphasize the importance of many thousands of ties created by Equinix for daily support of companies and people.
The company emphasized that the design “pays tribute” to the material nature of the vital infrastructure underlying the Internet. This is not about some strange magic or inexplicable strength, but about the physical, complex network of cables crossing land, the sea and creating physical ties in the data center around the world.
According to representatives of Equinix, the company wants to demonstrate the real influence of the Internet on everyday life and business, as well as its vital role in the UK economy. The company seeks to increase global awareness of a rapidly developing and important industry.
