Netflix’s ‘Epic’ Assassin’s Creed Series Shows Signs of Life for First Time in Years

Confirmed by Netflix back in 2020, the “epic” series with real actors based on the adventure action series Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft has not shown signs of life for several years, but, as it turns out, is far from dead.

Netflix’s head of gaming, Alain Tascan, commented on the prolonged silence surrounding the company’s Assassin’s Creed series in an interview with Game File.

According to Taskan, the project has not been cancelled at all and, moreover, is still in active development. The director did not share any additional details about the upcoming adaptation.

The last time players heard about the Netflix series based on Assassin’s Creed was in January 2023, when showrunner Jeb Stuart, known for his work on the scripts of the films Die Hard and The Fugitive, left the project.

At the same time, Taskan made it clear that the original mobile game in the Assassin’s Creed universe, announced in 2022 and developed in collaboration with Ubisoft, will no longer see the light of day.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t Netflix’s first bad experience with Assassin’s Creed. In 2017, the company announced an anime based on the franchise from Castlevania creator Adi Shankar, but the project never materialized.

Assassin’s Creed is having better luck on the console front. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, released in March, had the second-best launch in the franchise’s history, with the project’s audience growing to 3 million people in a week.
