Netflix competitor has lost 700 thousand subscribers per quarter and raise prices to compensate for this

The Disney+ streaming video service from September 28, 2024 lost 700 thousand subscribers – the most obvious reasons are raising prices and the fight against the joint use of accounts by several users. But the administration of the platform decided to raise prices again.

The loss of 700 thousand subscribers for Disney+ is an unpleasant phenomenon, but by no means a tragedy: in the fall of last year there were 125.3 million, and according to the results of the IV quarter, 124.6 million remained, that is, the platform lost only 0.5 % of the audience. The day before, she boldly raised prices in North America from $ 7.99 to $ 9.99 per month at the tariff with advertising and from $ 13.99 to $ 15.99 at the tariff without advertising – by 25 % and 14 %, respectively. Disney+ will hardly abandon the chosen strategy: the outflow of users touched only countries outside North America, and in the USA and Canada the number of subscribers, on the contrary, increased by 800 thousand contrary to prices and the fight against the joint use of subscriptions.

In the USA and Canada, the average Disney+ income has increased from $ 431.2 million to $ 453.83 million; In general – from $ 902.16 million to $ 940.73 million. Thus, the dissatisfaction of the audience and even their outflow will not interfere with the platform in the implementation of plans, whatever their strategy is obviously successful. To the next quarterly report of Disney+is expected to inform the audience again, but will hardly change the chosen course. This and other large platforms in 2025 will continue to raise prices and strengthen the fight against the joint use of accounts.
