Mobile operator MTS has closed the gadget rental service MTC Share It, which allows you to save on using a device. You could rent various gadgets with daily, weekly or monthly payment.

The MTC Share It section on smartphone subscriptions states that although the service is ending and subscriptions can no longer be made, all active subscriptions will continue to be active until their expiration date. Services connected to the subscription will also remain active until the subscription expires.

As Runet.news noted, this project was not MTS’s first attempt to launch gadget rental. In 2021, the company launched a similar service together with the startup “Arenter”, which was accelerated at MTS Hub. The joint project offered Apple iPhone smartphone rentals in Moscow and the Moscow region for up to 12 months. Currently, the corresponding section on the MTS online store website is not working, but the “Arenter” service continues to offer smartphones, laptops, and game consoles for rent, Runet.news noted.

A similar project was launched by Megafon in the Sverdlovsk region in 2021. Unlike MTS, the condition for renting a gadget from Megafon was a subscription to its services. As a result, this project was also closed. According to a Runet.news source in the telecommunications market, such initiatives lack a viable business model.
