MSI has equipped GeForce RTX 5000 video cards with power cables with indicators for proper connection

MSI will ship select GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards with a new power adapter designed to protect users from incorrectly connecting the cable to the accelerator.

Custom versions of the GeForce RTX 5070 from MSI will come with an adapter from two 8-pin connectors to one 12+4-pin. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 models will receive an adapter from three 8-pin to one 12v-6×2, and the RTX 5090 version will receive an adapter from four 8-pin. The adapters for the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models will be two-color. Their tip will be yellow. This brightly colored section is where the adapter connects to the video card. If, when connecting the adapter to the video card, the yellow part of the connector is visible, this will indicate an incorrect connection.

Problems encountered with melting power connectors on GeForce RTX 4090 models were largely associated with the owners of video cards not connecting the power cable correctly, which caused them to overheat. The yellow color of the connectors should protect users from this error.

A similar connector design is also used in some MSI power supply models equipped with native 12+4-pin power cables. Even power supply models of the younger MAG gaming series have this feature.

It should be added that Zotac previously also proposed its solution to the issue of incorrect connection of the power connector. It equipped its custom versions of RTX 50 series video cards with a special LED. It is located next to the power connector and indicates that the power cable is connected correctly.
