Moving to a new PC will be easier: Windows 11 will have a built-in app for full data migration

Microsoft is working on a new Migration App that will make it easy to transfer data from old PCs to new ones. Until now, users had to rely on third-party programs, as there was no built-in file transfer tool in Windows 11. Now, it looks like the company is going to fix that.

According to information found in the latest Windows 11 Insider Build 22635.4945, Microsoft is developing its own file transfer app. This tool is expected to reduce users’ dependence on third-party utilities and simplify the process of moving data to a new computer. As Neowin emphasizes, the first mentions of this feature were noticed by reliable Windows insiders.

Also, thanks to a user from the social network X with the nickname @a_donglee, possible details of the interface of the new application became known. However, as the source specifies, the images were created using a decompiler and may not reflect the final design, but represent only a preliminary version of the concept of the future tool.

Migration App will allow users to back up data to OneDrive cloud storage and transfer files to a new PC. The transfer process will involve Wi-Fi and Nearby Sharing, which requires devices to be close to each other. To connect, you need to be connected to the same network and enter a one-time password, and if the connection is interrupted, the devices will be able to reconnect and continue transferring data.

At this point, Microsoft has not announced a release date for the new tool, nor has it officially confirmed its existence. However, it is expected that before the full release, the application will, as usual, become available to participants in the Windows Insider program, and then to all users, making changing devices more convenient and safe.
