The report says that the number of victims of such phishing has exceeded the 1 million mark for the first time in a month. Moreover, this figure has been growing for the third month in a row: compared to December, the growth is 20%, and compared to November, it is 58%.

In addition, Yandex Browser users in January of this year received more than 500,000 warnings about attempts to go to pages designed to steal WhatsApp accounts. This figure has grown by 12% compared to November. The company noted that in most cases, attackers design phishing pages in the same style as the WhatsApp chat screen.

Typically, fraudsters correspond on behalf of bank employees, investment specialists, or clairvoyants. The main goal of such communication is to trick the victim into revealing personal data. For example, they may try to convince the victim to tell them the phone number linked to the account and the authorization code.

This month, it also became known that scammers have begun to steal Telegram accounts using fake internet access points. When connecting to such a point, the user is asked to log in through a Telegram account. After that, the user’s credentials fall into the hands of scammers and can be used for various purposes.
