Irene Namuganyi, Skype Product Manager, commented on the decision: “Our latest update removes all advertising from Skype channels and the entire Skype platform, providing a smoother, cleaner and more enjoyable user experience.” Microsoft emphasizes that the decision was made taking into account numerous reviews, TheVerge reports.
Users will no longer see ads in either the main chat window or the channels section. At the same time, the “Today” section with the MSN-based news feed will remain, but users who want to hide it will be able to do this through “Settings” – “Appearance”.
In addition to removing ads, Microsoft is also improving the AI image creation feature for Windows and macOS. Now you can quickly access the AI directly from the chat window, and enlarge the generated images with one click.
Skype will also introduce authentication for iOS, which will allow you to automatically log into the application if the user is already authorized in any other Microsoft application. A bug related to sending photos and videos over the 5G network has also been fixed. It is reported that the Skype update will be available to all users in the coming days.
