Microsoft warns that Windows 11 24H2 update causes problems in some games

Microsoft has blocked installation of the Windows 24H2 update for some systems due to the crashes it causes in the game Asphalt 8 and the incompatibility of the update with the Easy Anti-Cheat program, which leads to a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). Bleeping Computer writes about this.

After installing the Windows 24H2 update, Asphalt 8 may crash when starting or exiting the game, requiring a restart.

«After installing Windows 11 version 24H2, you may experience problems with Asphalt 8: Airborne. It may crash during gameplay and exiting it. You will need to restart the game to restore functionality,” says Microsoft.

The company is also working to resolve an incompatibility issue between Windows 11 24H2 and the Easy Anti-Cheat program commonly installed with some multiplayer games. It is known that only systems based on Intel processors of the Alder Lake generation and newer, as well as vPro platform chips, are affected by this problem. In some rare cases, when starting a game or directly during gameplay, systems may freeze or show a “Blue Screen of Death” with the “MEMORY_MANAGEMENT” error.

It is noted that most systems with Windows 11 24H2 experience problems working with Easy Anti-Cheat drivers released before April 2024. According to Microsoft, updating games may resolve this issue (as long as the update also contains an update to a compatible version of Easy Anti-Cheat).

The company has also added two security IDs (Safeguard ID 52796746 and 52325539) to prevent systems with similar gaming issues from installing the Windows 11 24H2 update from Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2. Microsoft also recommends that users do not manually update their PCs to the new Windows 11 24H2 using the Media Creation Tool or Windows 11 Installation Assistant until the issues are fixed and the update protection IDs are removed.

«If you try to install Windows 11 version 24H2 through the Media Creation Tool and you have incompatible drivers installed on your device, you will receive a pop-up message indicating that your device is not ready to install this new version of Windows,” the company said.

Microsoft is working to resolve a known issue with Asphalt 8 and create a fix that will be included in an upcoming OS update. On Monday, the company also released a small fix that fixes the problem with endless PC reboots, freezes, non-working USB and Bluetooth connections after installing the optional September update KB5043145 for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 systems.
