Microsoft has decided to finally get rid of the “relic of the past” – the “Maps” application, which migrated to Windows 11 from the Windows Phone era almost unchanged. The planned July update will make the application “inoperative”. After that, it will be impossible to install or reinstall “Maps”. It will also be impossible to use routes and addresses saved in the application.

It is unlikely that the planned removal of the Maps app will affect a significant number of users. This app appeared back in the days of Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile and even in its best years was not very popular. And in the fresh Windows 11 OS, it looked like a foreign body.

It’s important to note that the Bing Maps online service itself is not going anywhere and will continue to be available at bing.com/maps.
