Microsoft is testing a new browser for gamers that appears on top of the game

Microsoft has announced the start of testing Edge Game Assist, a new in-game overlay based on the Edge browser. At this stage, we are talking about beta testing, which users of computers based on Windows 11 can join.

Edge Game Assist is located in the Game Bar during gameplay and is designed to assist gamers. For example, the overlay can be used to search for any information or guides on the Internet, without the need to minimize the game. Edge Game Assist uses the same profile with which the user is logged into the Edge browser, so auto-filling forms and other functions will work when interacting with the overlay. Like other Game Bar widgets, the user can dock Game Assist on top of the game window.

At this stage, Game Assist supports English. To begin interacting with the overlay, you will also need to use the Edge 132 beta as your default browser. Users will have to search for information on many games themselves, but in some cases Game Assist displays data automatically, for example, when asking for Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV and Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga. Microsoft promises to add display support for more games as it tests the overlay.

Game Assist currently supports keyboard and mouse input, but will support handheld devices and gamepads in the future. Microsoft will continue to collect feedback from Game Assist beta users to identify and fix any bugs that may occur while interacting with the overlay.
