Microsoft has released Windows for iPhone, Mac and Android – an application for remotely connecting to desktops

Microsoft has announced the launch of a new Windows app for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, web browsers and Windows computers. This product is a tool for remote connection to various desktops, including Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, etc.

The Unified Windows App has been in testing for the past few months among Insiders. The developers have implemented the ability to customize the home screen, support for multiple monitors, and USB redirection, so the user can use locally connected devices such as printers and webcams as if they were connected to a remote computer.

Note that the Windows app is only available for Microsoft work and school accounts as it is primarily aimed at existing Remote Desktop users on Windows and other operating systems. Similar applications for connecting to Windows computers have existed for a long time. One such example is the Remote Desktop Connection app that comes with Windows 11.

There are currently no indications that Microsoft plans to make the Windows app available for consumer accounts. The new product is already available in the Microsoft Store and Apple App Store. A preview version of the product for Android will be available soon.
