Microsoft has broken Windows 11 again – headphones, webcams and even Alt+Tab stopped working with the update

The January Windows 11 Update at the KB5050009 number has become catastrophic for many users. The inoperability of the Bluetooth headphones and devices connected through the external USB DAC is reported. Users are faced with the “disappearance” of the webcam with the error “the camera is not detected”. Switching applications via ALT+TAB can lead to hanging the system. To correct these errors, sometimes there are not enough deletions of updates and the OS reinstall is required.

Users report that after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update at the KB5050009 number, the headphones with the Bluetooth connection stopped working, although they were displayed in the list of connected devices. Disconnecting and re -turning on headphones does not help, as well as resetting Bluetooth settings. It was also impossible to watch a video on YouTube due to constant buffering or sound rendering errors. The problem can only be solved by removing the update KB5050009.

After installing the update, many users began to report problems with built-in webcams, which functioning normally before installing fresh software. In particular, the owners of HP Spectre laptops complain that the camera on their devices is no longer found, and removing the update does not help to solve the problem, the OS reinstall is required. The owners of several models of 4K Dell models with built-in webcams (for example, P3424WEB and P2424HEB) report a similar situation-after updating the OS gives the error “The device cannot start”.

After installing the KB5050009 updates for Windows 11 24H2 and KB5050021 for Windows 11 23H2, numerous messages are received about the inoperability of external USB DACs, as a result of which the sound in connected equipment disappears, while the driver shows the error “not enough system resources to complete the API”. Among the touched devices are JDS Labs ODAC, FIIO E17K USB DAC, FX-Audio DAC-X6, HIFIME SABRE DAC, Hyperx USB and Denon Carino headset. Checking the DAC on other devices confirms their performance. The sound is restored only after the update is removed.

The KB5050009 update for Windows 11 24H2 often causes the game to freeze or crash when switching applications while playing using Alt+Tab. In this case, the Ctrl+Alt+Del combination or calling the task manager does not work, and “Explorer” or “Desktop” may also freeze. The problem affects many games, including Fortnite and Assassin’s Creed.

The KB5050009 update itself often causes failures directly during its installation. Some users experience endless rebooting, while others receive error code 0x80070005. After installing the update, some users report that Smart App Control does not work properly.

So far, there is no solution to correct the problem with the January update of Windows 11 24H2. It remains only to remove it, suspend updates in Windows and wait for Microsoft to react.
