Microsoft has blocked Windows 11 24H2 from installing on some PCs again, now due to driver issues

Microsoft has once again blocked the Windows 11 24H2 update from installing on some PCs. This time, the company has blocked the update from installing on devices that use an incompatible sprotect.sys driver from SenseShield Technology, which is causing serious problems for users after installing the latest update.

According to Microsoft, the driver “provides encryption protection and is used by specialized security software and enterprise solutions” and “may be automatically installed on the system as part of the installation process of many different applications” (such as antivirus software).

In severe cases, compatibility issues caused by the latest Windows 11 24H2 update can result in an increase in blue screens of death or a black screen. If the system stops responding, then often only built-in or recovery tools can help to fix the problem.

Microsoft states that the issue currently affects sprotect.sys drivers versions 1.0.2.372 and 1.0.3.48903. System administrators are advised to check whether these drivers are installed on their devices. As mentioned, these drivers can be installed and updated by various applications. There is no complete list of such applications at this time.

To prevent errors on affected devices, Microsoft has placed an update block with ID 56318982. Affected systems are no longer eligible to receive the Windows 11 24H2 update via Windows Update.

Microsoft is working with SenseShield Technology to resolve this issue as soon as possible and provide affected users with the option to install Windows 11 24H2.
