Microsoft has blocked users of Core i9-9900K and other older Intel chips from upgrading to Windows 11 24H2

Microsoft has updated the list of processors that are officially supported by the most current operating system, Windows 11 24H2. The updated list does not include the oldest 8th, 9th, and 10th generation Intel Core processors. This means that owners of computers based on these chips will not receive the Windows 11 24H2 update.

Microsoft’s decision to exclude the aforementioned Intel processors from the list of supported Windows 11 24H2 seems a bit odd. The thing is, these chips support TPM 2.0, which is a hardware security feature required to install the operating system. However, Microsoft suddenly decided that it would only support 12th-generation and later Intel Core processors.

Note that the change in the list of supported processors does not mean that users of computers with one of these chips will not be able to run Windows 11. However, it will not be possible to install the Windows 11 24H2 update. Microsoft has stated that Windows 11 will only support processors that meet the principles of ensuring security and reliability.

Interestingly, along with the removal of 8th, 9th, and 10th generation Core models from the list of supported processors, new Intel and AMD chips have appeared in it. For example, Windows 11 24H2 will support desktop and mobile AMD 8000 processors, including Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 5 8500G, Ryzen 5 8500GE, Ryzen 5 8600G, Ryzen 5 Pro 8540U, Ryzen 7 Pro 8700G, Ryzen 5 Pro 8600G, Ryzen 7 Pro 8840U, Ryzen 7 Pro 8845HS, Ryzen 7 Pro 8945HS, etc.

Those running Windows 11 on PCs with 8th, 9th, and 10th-generation Core chips, including expensive flagship processors like the Core i9-9900K and Core i9-10900K, are encouraged to upgrade to more current hardware. This will allow you to update to Windows 11 24H2 and continue to receive current updates in the future.
