Microsoft fixed Windows 11 24H2 – it began to “see” scanners and MFPs

At the end of last month, Microsoft suspended the distribution of Windows 11 24H2 to computers to which scanners that support eScanner Communication Language (eSCL) are connected via USB, because communication with peripheral devices was lost after installing the update. Now this restriction has been lifted, and users of scanners, multifunction devices, fax machines, modems and other eSCL-enabled devices can install Windows 11 24H2.

Microsoft was forced to confirm the presence of the problem, since after the start of distribution of Windows 11 24H2, many messages appeared on the company’s technical support website, in Reddit communities and on other sites that after installing the update, communication with USB-connected scanners and other devices was lost. According to the software giant, the problem stems from the fact that devices were unable to switch from eSCL mode to USB mode, causing the device discovery process to simply freeze.

To prevent the problem from affecting even more users, Microsoft has suspended the distribution of Windows 11 24H2 to devices with eSCL-enabled devices connected via USB, and has also advised users not to try to install the update manually. This week, the developers fixed the problem by releasing update KB5048667 for all editions of Windows 11. It is noted that after installing the patch, users will most likely have to wait 48 hours before they are prompted to download Windows 11 24H2.
