Microsoft Broke Windows Hello With Latest Security Update

Microsoft has announced that installing cumulative update KB5055523, which began rolling out in April 2025, may break the functionality of the Windows Hello feature, which is used to log in to computers. The issue affects devices running Windows 11 24H2, as well as Windows Server 2025, but only manifests itself in certain usage scenarios.

According to a Microsoft representative, the Windows Hello issue is observed on devices that had Dynamic Root of Trust for Measurement (DRTM) or System Guard Secure Launch enabled before installing KB5055523. Users may see the following message when attempting to log in via Windows Hello: “Something has happened and your PIN is not available.” In addition, they are prompted to try logging in again.

According to the available information, Microsoft is already working on fixing this issue and will likely release a patch soon. Until then, users are advised to use workarounds. Those who use a PIN code are advised to use the prompts to re-register with Windows Hello. Those who use face authorization must re-enable the recognition feature.

Note that cumulative update KB5055523 is not being pushed, so it’s best to hold off on installing it until Microsoft fixes the Windows Hello issue. Later, this package will become part of the monthly updates distributed as part of the Patch Tuesday program.
