The Copilot app included in the Windows 11 operating system is “inadvertently removed” from the PC when installing the latest monthly update of the OS, released on March 11, The Verge reports. The update package reportedly causes the Copilot launcher shortcut to become unpinned from the taskbar and the app itself to be removed.

«”We’re aware of an issue with the Microsoft Copilot app affecting some devices,” Microsoft said in a note accompanying the March Windows 11 update, adding that it was working on a fix and that affected users could reinstall the Copilot app from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it to the taskbar.

Some Windows 11 users who aren’t interested in the Copilot AI assistant have found some upside to this update bug. Over the past year, Microsoft has been tweaking the AI assistant client for Windows several times. First, the web app was replaced by a native one, and now it has a quick call to voice functions using the Alt + space key combination.

Microsoft is also working on additional updates to Copilot, which it plans to unveil at a special event to mark the company’s 50th anniversary on April 4. Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman will talk about the new features at the event. The company is rumored to be developing its own reasoning AI models to compete with OpenAI.
