Meta Launches Online Translations and Other AI-Powered Features for Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

Meta✴ Platforms has announced new color options for lenses for smart glasses, released in collaboration with the Ray Ban brand. At the same time, the company announced the expansion of the availability of a number of functions. Among them are the function of real-time speech translation, the ability to send messages and make calls via Instagram✴, as well as communicate with the branded AI assistant, including discussing what the user is looking at at the time.

The online translation function was first announced at the Meta✴ Connect 2024 conference, which took place in October last year. In December, the company made this function available to participants of the preliminary evaluation program. Now, the completion of the beta testing stage has been announced, and the online translation function will soon be available in all markets where Ray Ban smart glasses are present. At this stage, translation from English, French, Italian and Spanish is supported. In order to use the translator without a Wi-Fi or mobile Internet connection, you must first download the appropriate language pack.

Along with this, Meta✴ talked about some other features that are just getting ready for release or will soon become available to a wider number of users. Thus, the Live AI function, which allows the Meta✴ AI assistant to constantly see what the user sees, “will soon be generally available in the US and Canada.” The ability to send and receive messages, photos, audio calls, and video calls from Instagram✴ will also soon be available to users. Of course, you won’t be able to view messages on the glasses, because they don’t have a display, but you can quickly share what the user is looking at right now.

Access to music apps such as Spotify, Amazon Music or Apple Music will soon be available to smart glasses users outside the US and Canada. However, only those users of the device who set English as the default language will be able to ask the AI assistant to play something or tell more about the artist. Meta✴ AI itself, which has already become available in the UK, will appear in all EU countries where the company’s smart glasses are sold in the coming days. In the future, Meta✴ plans to start selling smart glasses in Mexico, India and the UAE.
