Aria Gen 2 has a wide range of sensors that allow it to be used for a variety of purposes. For example, the startup Envision uses them to develop services that help people with visual and hearing impairments navigate in space. The new model is an improved version of the Aria Gen 1 glasses, which Meta✴ (then Facebook✴) released in 2020.
Aria Gen 2 is Meta✴’s latest attempt to demonstrate that smart glasses can become as indispensable a mobile computing platform as a smartphone is today. The company has already launched Ray-Ban Meta✴ glasses for sale for $300, which are equipped with an AI-powered voice assistant and can be used to take photos and videos. In September, Meta✴ showed off a prototype of Orion augmented reality glasses.
Compared to its predecessor, Aria Gen 2 has a heart rate sensor, a more powerful processor for processing data on the device, and an improved body that allows you to wear it comfortably all day.
«Sharing them with academic and commercial research labs through Project Aria will further advance open research and public understanding of a set of critical technologies that we believe will help shape the future of computing and AI,” Meta✴ said. The company did not specify when it would make them available to a wider range of researchers, but said they could request access to the latest information.
