MediaTek and Nvidia are preparing an Arm processor for PCs with AI – it will compete with Snapdragon X Elite

In early August, Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek announced its intention to introduce its flagship mobile processor Dimensity 9400 in October, which will support most of the large language models available on the market. And in the first half of 2025, the company, with the support of Nvidia, intends to release the first chip for PCs with artificial intelligence, reported the Canadian resource Wccftech and the Chinese MyDrivers.

The chip is currently at the design stage, but testing will begin in the current quarter. It will be an Arm-based chip, developed jointly by MediaTek and Nvidia and equipped with support for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G, and will hit the market in the second quarter of 2025. MediaTek has decided to launch its own AI PC chip after Qualcomm launched its Snapdragon X Elite series processors. The processor from MediaTek, according to unconfirmed reports, will be produced by TSMC using the 3 nm process technology.

Nvidia’s participation in the project will help the Taiwanese developer achieve a breakthrough in the field of integrated graphics, and given its experience in developing high-performance yet cost-effective mobile processors, an AI PC chip could show impressive results in both criteria. MediaTek and Nvidia are also collaborating on automotive processors, with the first one expected to launch in early 2025. Significant achievements in the auto industry segment should be expected in 2027 or 2028, MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai previously clarified.
