Lucid introduced the Gravity SUV with Tesla charging and showed an electric car under $50,000

Lucid held a Technology and Manufacturing Day event where it showed off its upcoming Gravity electric SUV, which will begin shipping later this year, in a Tesla charging plug version. In addition, the manufacturer showed an image of its next electric car, which will cost less than $50 thousand.

Many automakers have already unveiled their 2025 models equipped with the NACS (North American Charging Standard) port, which is also used by Tesla. However, Lucid could be the first company to place a charging port on the rear driver’s side, like Tesla cars. When placed this way, it will likely not block access to multiple Supercharger stations while charging, as does the CCS-NACS adapter.

Lucid also announced a midsize SUV priced “under $50,000” in late 2026. It will be built on the new, still in development Midsize platform using the next generation Atlas drive.

The new vehicle should position Lucid competitively in the growing electric SUV and crossover market in the United States, which is dominated by the Tesla Model Y. Another unannounced Lucid vehicle is positioned as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3.

The Air, Lucid’s only car on the market today, was very expensive and the company managed to stay afloat only thanks to investors from Saudi Arabia, who own a majority stake in Lucid. The company is now making large-scale efforts to expand its product range. Lucid says it has delivered more vehicles to customers this year than in all of 2023.
