Logitech introduced an office radar Spot – an unusual alternative to surveillance cameras

Logitech managed to increase sales during the Pandemia, when people equipped their home offices; Then the remotes replaced the hybrid format of work, and the company began to more actively produce equipment for television conferences. The Logitech Spot device is designed to work in the office – it is equipped with a radar that detects the presence of a person in the room.

A device with a radar operating in a millimeter range can be fixed at any point in the office – it will help to track how certain premises are used by employees. The wires for the work of Logitech Spot are not needed, and one lithium battery of the size D is enough for four years. This is not only a radar: the device has sensors of solid particles, volatile organic substances, carbon dioxide, temperature, pressure and humidity, therefore it can be used by assessments of working conditions.

The main function of the Logitech Spot, the manufacturer calls the ability to understand whether the employees use the office space and which rooms are involved. So you can automate the reservation of negotiation rooms or other office premises, and this will also help when making decisions to reduce office space, publication of orders to transition to an office or, on the contrary, hybrid, mode of operation. The novelty will also help in reducing energy consumption.

The device is a more private replacement of surveillance cameras: the radar “initially” does not allow us to understand how many people are in the room, but only reports whether it is busy or not, although alternative options are also allowed. So, the manufacturer can broadcast to customers unprocessed data from the sensor.

Logitech Spot reveals the presence of a person at a distance of up to five meters in the main and about 60 cm in lateral directions. The radar is useful for working in rooms when using the camera is not quite convenient. The device broadcasts data on a wireless Lorawan concentrator, is supported by Bluetooth. The sensor will help to automate the process of reservation of conference rooms-it is compatible with existing decisions of the company, including interactive Logitech View, sensory controllers for conference rooms and the workplace designed by partners, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Logitech does not exclude scenarios for using Spot in a smart home system. For example, the device can give a command to improve the quality of air in the room if pollution is found; And he will be able to determine which of the famous users entered the room so that the smart house sets a temperature comfortable for him. In large rooms, several Logitech Spot will help track the temperature difference. For the operation of the device, you need to connect to the Logitech cloud, but to create alternative scenarios you can use the API. The cost of the device has not yet been specified, but it will go on sale in the second half of the year.
