Ten years ago, on October 8, 2014, Dr. Lisa Su was appointed CEO and President of AMD. At that time, the company was in deep crisis – its shares were trading below $3, and the market capitalization was just over $2 billion after losing $1 billion in a few months. Today, AMD is valued at $278 billion, thanks to Su’s leadership in leading the company through transformation and success.

One of the key factors for AMD’s success was its revival in the processor market, which began in 2017, with the EPYC and Ryzen series. These high core count chips put serious pressure on Intel, which was not prepared for such competition. Thanks to EPYC, AMD was able to take a significant place in the server solutions segment, while Ryzen became popular among gamers and PC enthusiasts.
Despite significant success in the processor market, AMD’s presence in the graphics processing unit (GPU) market remains less noticeable. Nvidia continues to be a leader in this segment. However, AMD was able to achieve significant results in the field of custom hybrid processors used in Sony and Microsoft game consoles.
Lisa Su expressed gratitude to the AMD teams for years of successful work and hinted that there is still a lot of interesting things ahead. Already on October 10, at the AMD Advancing AI event, it will present new processors of the EPYC and Ryzen PRO series. However, as it became known, no new announcements of video cards are expected at this event.
