In a few days, at the SID Display 2025 exhibition, LG Display will present, among other new products, a car OLED display with a stretchable screen. It is capable of physically “growing” buttons and on-screen controls that literally float above the surface from the depths of the screen. Just a moment ago, the smooth surface of the display is instantly transformed, creating a convenient relief in the form of physical buttons and handles with symbols running along them.

With its new stretchable display for cars that turns any interior surface into a screen, LG Display is demonstrating the potential for innovative design that is focused on the future of mobility, according to a company press release. The display is capable of stretching by 50% while maintaining a high resolution of 100 pixels per inch with full RGB color space.

According to LG Display designers, the central part of a conventional car dashboard typically houses a separate display and physical buttons. However, with a stretchable display, the screen can freely change shape, allowing the controls and display to merge into a single surface. When needed, the display forms protruding physical buttons, providing tactile feedback. As a result, when the screen is touched, the previously flat surface flexibly deforms, extending the touch buttons – making it easier to operate even while driving.

In addition to this unusual solution, the company will also demonstrate a number of other in-car displays, including roll-up OLED screens that extend from the ceiling of the cabin, and displays with a limited viewing angle so that, for example, a front-seat passenger can watch movies or play games without distracting the driver.
