Although it’s been over eight years since PlatinumGames’ fantasy action RPG Scalebound was cancelled, Okami and Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya, who was at the helm of the project, still hasn’t given up hope of returning to the game.

Recall that Scalebound was announced at E3 2014, but Microsoft cancelled the project in January 2017. While still part of PlatinumGames, Kamiya repeatedly urged Phil Spencer to come to his senses and “do it” (return to development).
Kamiya has since left PlatinumGames and founded Clovers (currently developing a sequel to Capcom’s legendary adventure game Okami), but he hasn’t forgotten about Scalebound.
The official Clovers X social media account posted a short video (see video above) of Kamiya spending his work time watching and discussing past Scalebound demos with his co-workers.
As noted in Clovers, Kamiya is still proud of his work on Scalebound and periodically states his desire to “do it again someday.” “Let’s do it, Phil!” the game designer commented on the publication.
Despite the fantasy setting with dragons, Scalebound’s protagonist had a smartphone and headphones
In the past, Spencer, who has since been promoted to CEO of Microsoft Gaming since Scalebound’s cancellation, has lamented the public nature of the game’s development and highlighted the lack of plans to revive the game.
Scalebound was supposed to be released in 2017 on PC and Xbox One. Kamiya explained the project’s cancellation at the time by the inexperience of the PlatinumGames team, including its work with the Unreal Engine.
