NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang and King Frederik X of Denmark announced the launch of the country’s largest sovereign AI supercomputer. The system was named Gefion (“Gefion”) – in honor of the Scandinavian goddess of fertility.
The NPC complex is operated by the Danish Center for Artificial Intelligence Innovation (DCAI), which was created with the support of the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the Danish Export and Investment Fund. The Gefion commissioning ceremony, held in Copenhagen, was attended by Nadia Carlsten, CEO of DCAI.
The supercomputer integrates 191 DGX H100 systems, resulting in a total of 1,528 NVIDIA H100 accelerators. 382 Intel Xeon Platinum processors and NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand interconnect are used. Other technical characteristics, as well as system performance indicators, have not yet been disclosed. Peak theoretical FP64 performance should be about 52 Pflops, and in FP8 calculations with sparsity – about 6 Eflops.

It is reported that Gefion will be used to solve complex problems in the field of quantum computing, green energy, biotechnology, etc. In particular, researchers from the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) intend to use the machine to conduct large-scale distributed simulations of quantum computer circuits. In addition, UCPH, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Novo Nordisk and Novonesis will jointly develop a multi-modal genomic AI model for disease mutation analysis and vaccine development. Startups implementing promising projects in the field of text, image and video processing will also have access to Gefion.
