American director James Cameron, who had a hand in such masterpieces as the first two parts of “Terminator” and “Titanic,” has always been a supporter of advanced technical visualization tools, and therefore, in the era of the heyday of generative artificial intelligence systems, he decided to touch upon their creation, joining the board of directors of the British startup Stability AI.
This young company creates tools for automatically generating videos based on text descriptions, competing with giants like OpenAI and Google. Representatives of the American film industry showed interest in such tools after the demonstration of a similar Sora solution from OpenAI in February of this year. For the British startup Stability AI, being connected to a film culture figure like Cameron makes it more confident in finding markets for its developments. In 2022, Stability AI’s capitalization was estimated at $1 billion, and this year the company managed to raise $80 million. Former Facebook president✴ Sean Parker became the executive chairman of the board of directors of Stability AI.
The Stable Video Diffusion software allows you to create videos using artificial intelligence based on a text description. Cameron says the intersection of generative artificial intelligence with computer-generated imagery is “opening up new ways for artists to tell stories they might not have previously imagined.” Even with the inspiration of the innovative director, Hollywood’s relationship with the developers of generative artificial intelligence systems cannot be called smooth. Actors and screenwriters went on strike last year to protest their replacement by artificial intelligence. They called for limiting the use of such technologies in the creation of film and television programs.
