Intel’s newly appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan emphasized the company’s commitment to its contract manufacturing business during his keynote at the Intel Vision event, and said that Intel’s own Panther Lake processors based on Intel’s 18A technology will begin shipping this year.

As PCWorld notes, Lip-Bu Tan promised to build “strong teams that can right the wrongs of the past and begin to earn trust.” The new head of the company added that he was close to Intel’s senior vice president Albert Yu, who led the development of Pentium 4 processors, as well as Sean Maloney, who retired in 2013 and who headed sales and marketing and at one point headed Intel’s Chinese division.
Under his leadership, Tang said Intel will “clean up some aspects of its strategy and free up some bandwidth, with some non-core businesses being spun off.” The company’s core business will be expanded through artificial intelligence and “software 2.0.” Tang also expressed a willingness to work with the Trump administration to grow its contract business.
«My motto is very simple: underpromise and overdeliver,” said Intel’s new CEO.
Admitting his love for the company he has taken over, Lip-Bu Tan added: “It has been very hard for me to watch it struggle. I just couldn’t stand by when I knew I could help fix so many things. I also fully understand that it won’t be easy. Intel has been struggling for a long time, we have fallen behind in innovation. As a result, we have been too slow to adapt and meet your needs. You deserve better, we need to be better, and we will be better, please be completely honest with us. We may not be perfect at the beginning of this journey, but in the end, you can count on me to be perfect.”
