Intel Unveils Xeon 6700P and 6500P Processors — Up to 86 Cores for $10,400

Intel Corporation has officially unveiled the Xeon 6700P and Xeon 6500P Granite Rapids server processors, which are based on high-performance P-cores. The products are relatives of the Xeon 6900P chips that debuted in September last year.

The announced processors combine from eight to 86 computing cores with multithreading support. Depending on the modification, the chips can be installed in single-, dual-, quad- and eight-socket servers. The TDP indicator varies from 150 to 350 W. For comparison: Xeon 6900P solutions have up to 128 cores and have a TDP of up to 500 W, but can only be used in single- and dual-socket machines.

The Xeon 6700P and Xeon 6500P chips support eight channels of DDR5-6400 or MRDIMM-8000 memory (not all models). The L3 cache size varies from 48 to 336 MB. Support for 88 PCIe 5.0 lanes is implemented (136 lanes for modifications for single-socket servers), as well as up to four UPI 2.0 lanes. The maximum clock frequency in turbo mode is 4.3 GHz (see specifications below). AVX-512 (Advanced Vector Extensions), AMX (Advanced Matrix Extensions), etc. are implemented.

The flagship Xeon 6787P model has 86 cores with a frequency of up to 3.8 GHz and a TDP of 350 W: the chip is priced at $10,400. In the eight-socket server segment, the most powerful chip is the Xeon 6788P model with similar characteristics, which costs $19,000. The most affordable of the announced products are the eight-core Xeon 6507P (up to 4.3 GHz, 150 W) for $765 and the 12-core Xeon 6505P (4.1 GHz, 150 W) for $563. The series of chips for single-socket servers is headed by the Xeon 6781P variant with 80 cores, a frequency of up to 3.8 GHz and a TDP of 350 W: such a chip will cost $8,960.
