Intel CEO Makes Key Staff Changes to Cut Red Tape

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took over last month, has continued to reshape the company’s management structure, cutting bureaucracy and speeding up decision-making. Last week, he announced more personnel changes, including expanding the CFO’s authority and appointing key executives who will now report directly to him.

One of the major changes is that CFO David Zinsner has been given more responsibility. He will now oversee Intel’s corporate development and global IT functions. Previously, those roles were held by Matt Poirer, who will leave the company, according to CRN, and former CTO Greg Lavender, who is retiring.

Another new direct report to Tan is Jeff Dahncke, Intel’s head of global communications. Previously part of the sales and marketing team, his unit will now work directly with the CEO. Tan explained the decision as “cross-company work that aligns with business priorities.” Intel Capital chief Anthony Lin will also report directly to Lip-Bu Tan.

Additionally, Victoria Holroyd-Fogg, vice president of human resources, has been named interim chief human resources officer. Her predecessor, Christy Pambianchi, will move to a similar role at Caterpillar. Some top executives remain unchanged, including Intel Foundry leaders Naga Chandrasekaran and Kevin Buckley.

Interestingly, these changes occurred amid rumors of possible mass layoffs at Intel. As CRN writes, citing Bloomberg, the company may fire more than 20% of its employees. Intel itself declined to comment on the situation.
