Instagram introduced a competitor to the video editor CapCut from the creator of TikTok

The CEO of the social network Instagram✴ Adam Mosseri announced the video editing application Edits, noting that it is designed to compete with the CapCut application from ByteDance, which, along with TikTok, was removed from the American sections of the Apple App Store and Google Play after the new one came into force law. Edits is now available for pre-order on the Apple App Store.

«There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, our job is to provide creators with the best tools possible,” Mosseri said in a video posted to Instagram✴.

Mosseri described Edits as more than a video editing app, as it offers a full range of creative tools. According to him, Edits will have a separate tab for inspiration, another for tracking early ideas, a much better camera, all sorts of editing tools, the ability to share drafts with friends and other authors, and powerful ideas about how it will work for those who decide to publish their videos on Instagram✴.

Ideas include a “fresh ideas panel,” a breakdown of subscriber and non-subscriber engagement, and metrics on how often users skip certain videos.

Responding to a request from The Verge, Mosseri said that Meta✴ has been working on the application “for several months now.” He noted that “it will end up being very different from CapCut,” adding that “Edits will have a much broader range of creative tools and likely a smaller target audience.”
