According to TechCrunch, the social network Instagram✴ began testing a new function that allows you to express its attitude to comments under posts and Reels using the “Do not like” button. The company confirmed that it is conducting an experiment to provide users with the opportunity to signal that they do not like the comment or seems irrelevant.

According to the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, this button will be visible only to the sender, and the author of the commentary will not find out that others did not like his message. At the same time, the number of “diesels” will not be displayed publicly. “We are testing a new button next to the comments on Instagram✴ to give people the opportunity to privately express their opinion that they do not like the comment. In the future, we can use this flag to lower the rating of such comments, ”Mosseri wrote in Threads.

The first tests of this function became known as the last month, but now Instagram✴ officially confirmed the existence of an experiment, which is still being conducted on a small group of users. In the future, the new algorithm will affect the procedure for displaying comments, helping to improve the interaction of the participants of this social network.

It is worth saying that a similar mechanism has long been used on Reddit, where the voting system affects the ranking of comments. However, it is still unclear whether Instagram will give the “dyslaim” the same meaning as this platform.

The new function can help reduce the level of toxicity in discussions and make comments more friendly. However, Meta✴ has not yet been informed when the decision on a possible global launch will be finally made.
