Instagram and Facebook will be filled with users generated by AI

Meta✴ intends to fill social networks with characters created using artificial intelligence in the coming years. This, according to the company, will increase the engagement of the audience, which amounts to 3 billion users on all its platforms, writes the Financial Times.

Meta✴ will release a range of AI-powered products, including a tool for creating AI personas on Instagram✴ and Facebook✴, in a move seen as a means of competing with other tech giants to attract and retain young audiences. “We expect that these AI tools will actually appear on our platforms over time in much the same way as accounts. They will have biographies and profile photos, and will be able to create and publish content using AI on the platform. This is where we think this is going,” said Connor Hayes, Vice President of Generative AI Products at Meta✴.

«The priority for Meta✴ for the next two years will be measures that will make the company’s applications “more interesting and attractive,” including strengthening the social component when interacting with AI, the top manager added. He recalled that in July the company launched an AI tool with which several hundred thousand characters were created, and access to it will be expanded in the future. In the meantime, most bloggers use AI to improve the appearance of real materials – the authors simply edit photos.

In September, Snapchat introduced tools for creating 3D characters in augmented reality; The number of users opening AI lenses is growing by 50% every year. TikTok has launched a pilot project called Symphony, which will help brands and bloggers use AI to create advertising materials, including generating videos from text queries and translating content. Meta✴ launched AI assistants that answer questions from subscribers instead of bloggers; next year, users will be able to generate a video with their participation by text request. Earlier, the head of the company, Mark Zuckerberg, held a “video call” with a digital copy of a person – the person himself was standing on stage next to him at that time.

Experts warn that AI-generated content could be used maliciously, such as to spread misinformation. To protect against this, Meta✴ proposes to clearly label AI-generated materials on platforms. Another potential threat to the ubiquitous presence of AI in social networks, according to experts, is a decrease in the quality of content. And Meta✴ has not yet offered ways to prevent this.
