Flashes, an Instagram✴-like app linked to the Bluesky social network, was released this week in the Apple App Store. The service offers an Instagram✴-like user interface and allows you to upload up to four photos and videos up to a minute long. In just the first 24 hours, Flashes was downloaded more than 30,000 times.

The new service was created by German developer Sebastian Vogelsang. The app is based on the AT Protocol, which is being developed by Bluesky. Since Flashes is linked to the Bluesky social network, which has about 32 million users, it had access to a fairly large audience right away. This means that posts from Flashes can be displayed in Bluesky, meaning they can reach a wider audience than if they were only visible to app users.
While Flashes is very similar to Instagram✴, the new app is more flexible. Instead of getting content recommended by the social network’s algorithms, Flashes users can access any of Bluesky’s roughly 50,000 user feeds. The app also lets you browse a feed of the latest and greatest posts from Bluesky.
The app also has tools for photographers who want to showcase their work. For example, when setting up a profile, you can choose which images will be shown to other users. This will allow you to highlight the best photos that will be shown to people viewing the user’s profile. In addition, the published photos can be edited using built-in filters.
The author of the application said that potential investors have already contacted him, ready to invest in the development of the Flashes project. This probably means that Flashes will continue to develop, and the user base will expand.
