Insta360 has announced a new version of its 360-degree action camera that features improved repairability. Last year, the company introduced a removable lens protector for the X4 camera, but with the X5, it has gone one step further, developing a design that allows the user to simply replace the lenses if they become damaged. The new product also shoots better in low light and boasts a larger battery than its predecessor.

In addition to interchangeable lenses made from “new ultra-tough glass,” Insta360 has also equipped the X5 with larger 1/1.28-inch sensors, which should improve low-light performance. Also designed to improve image quality is a new PureVideo mode, which the company says uses “advanced AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimization to deliver clear, vivid footage in low light.”

The X5 can shoot 8K video at 30 frames per second, including with PureVideo mode enabled. 60 frames per second can be achieved by reducing the resolution to 5.7K, and with 4K resolution, the new product can shoot video at up to 120 frames per second. The maximum photo resolution is 72 megapixels.

To make it easier to share videos on social media without editing, the Insta360 X5 offers a new mode called InstaFrame, which when enabled, the camera records two video streams simultaneously, allowing you to capture the creator’s face plus a full 360-degree clip of everything happening around you.

The removable 2400mAh battery provides 88 minutes of 8K video recording at 30 fps. Dropping the resolution to 5K increases the recording time to 135 minutes, and at 24 fps the camera’s battery life increases to 185 minutes.

The X5 is IP68 certified, allowing you to use the camera underwater at depths of up to 15 meters without the need for an additional diving housing.

The Insta360 X5 action camera is available now, priced at $550 for the standard version, which includes essential accessories like a charging cable and case. The $660 Essentials Kit adds an extra battery, a 45-inch extendable selfie stick, lens protectors, lens caps, and a carrying case. A lens kit is $30, and an extra battery is $45.
