Infinix showed a smartphone with a solar panel, and also a smartphone with an additional E-Ink screen

Infinix often showcases bright concept devices, one of which was the compact three-fold smartphone Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold, capable of turning into an action camera. Now, at the MWC 2025 exhibition, the vendor showed a smartphone with a solar panel integrated into the back of the case, as well as a smartphone case that makes it possible to use solar energy to recharge the battery, and a smartphone with an E-Ink panel built into the back of the case.

Infinix calls this technology SolarEnergy-Reserving, and its implementation involves the use of perovskite solar cells, as these panels are thinner and cheaper to produce compared to traditional silicon solar cells. Working in conjunction with the solar cells is a voltage regulation system called Maximum Power Point Tracking. The idea is to maximize power while maintaining precise control over the release of thermal energy by managing this process.

Keeping your smartphone in the hot sun may be good for the solar panel, but overheating is not desirable for the internal components. In its current form, this technology allows for a 2W charging process, and its purpose is to replenish the device’s reserve charge while it is not in use.

A smartphone with a solar panel built into the back looks like a pretty straightforward device, but the case is perhaps even more interesting. The vendor is showing the case paired with a prototype smartphone that has a pair of contacts on the side panel that provide power transfer.

At the same time, Infinix showed a second-generation smartphone with an E-Ink panel built into the back cover. In the previous version of the device, the back panel changed color only when connected to the network. Now it is powered by an internal battery and can be configured to display various patterns and color shades.
