But we are not talking about increasing throughput, but about reducing delay due to the implementation of the L4S standard (Low Latency, Low Loss, and Scalable Throughput), reports The Verge.

The L4S standard is designed to improve work with jams on the network. Packages receive a special marking that allows you to find out if they have come into a mash on the way to the acceptor. If there is a delay, then the devices can be adjusted to eliminate or minimize the network overload. L4S provides a low delay in games and communication in video chats with quality close to real dialogues face to face without awkward delays and pauses, says Comcast.

First of all, the reduction in delays can be seen in Facetime, GeForce Now and “Many Games” Steam, as well as in the Meta✴ mixed reality sets, which will support the technology. When testing technology with Comcast, Apple, Nvidia and Valve collaborated. L4S support is built into Apple devices from the IOS 17 and MacOS Sonoma version. However, the use of L4S is not limited only by wire networks – mobile operators are also considering the possibility of supporting the standard.

Comcast emphasizes that the technology will apply to all other suppliers of content and applications who want to use a new solution in their products. According to representatives of the company, during the tests it was possible to reduce the delay in typical home use by 78% – the provider customers should notice significant improvements. Over time, the new solution will become available to all Xfinity Internet customers.
