In the first gaming tests, the Ryzen Z2 Go console processor was only 10% slower than the Ryzen Z1 Extreme

YouTube channel Fps Vn published the results of the first gaming tests of the Lenovo Legion Go S portable game console. The device, presented at the international electronics exhibition CES 2025, is equipped with a Ryzen Z2 Go processor and in one version runs the SteamOS operating system.

The Ryzen Z2 Go processor belongs to the Rembrandt series and is equipped with four Zen 3+ cores with support for eight virtual threads. The chip operates at frequencies up to 4.3 GHz and has 10 MB of cache memory. The power consumption indicator is adjustable from 15 to 30 W. The processor also includes integrated Radeon 680M graphics based on RDNA 2 architecture with 12 execution units.

Gaming benchmarks showed the Ryzen Z2 Go to be only 9-10% slower. And this is a very impressive result, considering that the Ryzen Z2 Go uses an older architecture (Zen 3 versus Zen 4 for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme), is equipped with half the number of physical cores (four versus eight for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme), and operates at a lower frequency ( 4.3 GHz versus 5.1 GHz for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme) and received less powerful graphics (RDNA 2 versus RDNA 3 for the Ryzen Z1 Extreme).

Below is a table with the average FPS value provided by both consoles in different modes and when using different resolutions.

The older version of Legion Go S for Windows should be the first to go on sale. It is expected this month for $729.99. A less expensive version should be available in March, priced at $599.99. In turn, the Legion Go S model on SteamOS will have to wait until May 2025, and it will cost $499.99. Both versions of the console use an 8-inch WUXGA PureSight display with an aspect ratio of 16:10, a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The console will offer up to 32 GB of RAM and a battery capacity of 55.5 Wh.
