Cybercriminals create fake Wi-Fi networks in public places-when trying to connect to them, users receive a request for authorization via Telegram, but in fact they steal accounts in the messenger and warned the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Sheremetyevo Airport administration recommended using the official network.

Hackers organize false Wi-Fi networks in public places and use them for the “hijacking” of Telegram accounts, they said in the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to combat cybags. One of these incidents occurred at Sheremetyevo Airport, in which a fraudulent access point of “svo_free” appeared, which seemed harmless. When trying to connect to the users’ network, they asked to pass authorization via Telegram and send a six -digit code to the service bot through SMS – so cybercriminals gained access to the account.

This Wi-Fi network in Sheremetyevo is called “_ShereMetyevo Wi-Fi”-only the phone number is used to authorize it, and not accounts in messengers or “public services”, the administration said. At the airport, it is not recommended to connect to networks with any other names. Earlier, the similar scheme of Evil Twin (“Evil twin”) was told in the MTS security service: scammers create an indistinguishable from the genuine fake access point and steal confidential data. In order not to become a victim of cybercriminals, it is recommended to abandon the automatic connection function, the operator said.
