In Norway, electric cars took up 94% of the primary car market – Tesla leads

According to the Norwegian Federation of Roads (OFV), about 94% of all 11,114 new cars sold in August were electric. The main driver of this growth was significant tax breaks and various benefits, such as the possibility of using dedicated bus lanes and special parking conditions.

Tesla Model Y took the lead, surpassing sales of 2,000 units, accounting for 19% of total sales. Volvo EX30 sales reached 932 units, while Skoda Enyaq achieved 700 units sold. Thus, electric vehicles continue to gain popularity among Norwegian consumers, confirming the growing interest in electric transport.

OFV director Oyvind Solberg Thorsen noted that “if current trends continue, Norway can achieve its target of 100% net-zero emissions by 2025.” He also added that this year there has been a slight increase in the total number of car sales compared to the same period last year, which indicates “albeit a slight improvement in the economic situation of citizens.”

Against the backdrop of overall sales growth, cars with petrol and diesel engines each accounted for only 2% of the total number of cars sold in Norway. Moreover, since the beginning of the year, the share of electric vehicles in the new passenger car market has reached almost 87%, highlighting a major shift towards environmentally friendly transport in the country.
