Humanoid robots will become widespread in a few years, say Nvidia and XPeng CEOs

The field of artificial intelligence and robotics are developing synchronously, since the success of the former will determine the pace of progress of the latter. The head of Nvidia believes that humanoid robots will become widespread in production in less than five years, and the head of XPeng is convinced that they will be adopted in households in about five years.

As Reuters notes, Nvidia founder Jensen Huang made his statements from the podium of GTC 2025 in California. In his opinion, the time frame for the appearance of humanoid robots on the market in sufficient quantities is measured not in five years, but in a shorter period. However, the pioneers in the introduction of such robots will still be enterprises, not households. In a strictly controlled and standardized environment, it is much easier and safer to use robots in production than in a home environment.

The head of Nvidia speaks quite freely about the cost of humanoid robots: “The cost is very, very easy to determine. The average rental rate for a humanoid robot now reaches $100,000, and I think that’s very good economics.” Apparently, this is the amount of money it costs to rent an advanced humanoid robot for a year, although the original source does not specify the period. Let us recall that Elon Musk wants to make his Tesla Optimus humanoid robots as affordable as possible — $20,000 each for unlimited use.

One of the presidents of the Chinese startup XPeng, Brian Gu Hongdi, also emphasized this week that his company will primarily implement humanoid robots in the commercial sector, but in the next few years the market capacity of such robots will exceed the automobile transport segment. However, at least five years will pass before humanoid robots become widespread in everyday life, according to XPeng management.

By the end of next year, the Chinese company will launch mass production of not only humanoid robots, but also flying electric cars. XPeng intends to spend at least $6.9 billion on developing humanoid robots in the next 20 years. In August, the company introduced its own Turing AI processor, which will be used in both autopilot systems and robots of this brand. XPeng will begin producing cars with level 4 autonomy in 2026.
